Since this is a new training, we are still working on making it as smooth as possible!

This Introduction to Public Health curriculum will be composed of six modules: History of Public Health, Principles of Public Health, Public Health Tools and Services, the Public Health Workforce and Health Professionals, Public Health Institutions, and Health Care Systems and Ethics of Public Health.

  1. History of Public Health
    • Discuss the history and philosophies of public health;
  2. Principles of Public Health
    • Describe principles of population health and the ten essential public health services
    • Describe the characteristics of a population-based health problem (e.g. equity, social determinants, environment)
  3. Public Health Tools and Services
    • Identify the basic public health sciences (including, but not limited to biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental health sciences, health services administration, and social and behavioral health sciences ) and sources of public health data and how these data can influence public health decisions and policy
    • Describes how data are used to address scientific, political, ethical, and social public health issues
  4. The Public Health Workforce and Health Professionals
    • Describe who makes up the public health workforce and where they are employed
    • Describe the need for a diverse public health workforce
  5. Public Health Institutions, and Health Care Systems
    • Describe the local, state, and federal public health and health care systems
    • Describe the role of governmental and non-governmental organizations in the delivery of public health services.
    • Recognize how cultural, social, economic and behavioral factors impacts the accessibility, availability, acceptability and delivery of public health services and the overall health status of a population
  6. Ethics of Public Health
    • Recognize and discuss current and ongoing public health issues and needs
    • Recognize how cultural, behavioral, economic and societal factors

The field of informatics deals with the study of information; how it is collected, organized, stored, retrieved, transmitted and secured.  This is a two-part, online module about the topic.
